One of the many things the Catherine, Duchess Of Cambridge, or as we know her Kate Middleton has had to deal with is the memory of her beautiful and much-adored mother-in-law, Princess Diana and hence the inevitable parallel drawing between the two. But with her impending arrival to the Indian subcontinent, it’s hard not to reminisce about the trip Princess Diana herself made to India 24 years ago. Prince William & Kate will also be visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra just as Diana did too.
Of all the Indian designers Ritu Kumar‘s association with the royal family has been long, considering Lady Diana patronised her store in South Audley in London and even wore one of her salwars on her trip to Lahore accompanying Imran Khan and Jemima Khan, a picture of which subsequently appeared in a magazine in London. Unfortunately, she passed away before she had a chance to wear the rest of the exclusive Ritu Kumar outfits designed for her.
When asked about what she thinks Kate should wear on her trip, she opined,
The Duchess of Cambridge is a graceful, beautiful lady. Though I have no doubts that she will look gorgeous while in India, it’ll be so appropriate to see her in a similar blue outfit worn by her late mother-in-law, years ago. When visiting the Taj, a blue kurta with a churidar and long dupatta will be a bit more modern and will complement the Duchess’ sartorial sense versus the classic salwar worn by the late Princess.
