Ola Cabs released a thirty second ad to promote their cheap per kilometer charges, but they managed to anger a lot of people in the process. The video shows a couple walking through a market, where the girl gushes ‘baby’ and buys whatever she sets her eyes on. No sorry, she makes the guy buy it for her, I mean that’s what women do right? Because the boyfriend is such a great guy, he dutifully buys whatever his girl points at before breaking the fourth wall and telling the camera – “Meri girlfriend chalti hai Rs 525 per km, but Ola Micro chalti hai sirf Rs 6 per km“. Which means walking a kilometer with his girlfriend is worth a certain amount because she shops so much but an Ola is cheap AF. He then books the cab and also opens the door for the girlfriend as well, because he’s such a sweetie and his girl is such a gold-digger, my god.
Sadly, this noble attempt was branded as sexist and misogynist by many people. I really wonder why.
@Olacabs
why so misogynist? Or just the person who made this ad was recovering from a heartbreak? https://t.co/BxatX4Vs3o— Priyanka Singh (@autumnrainwish) April 23, 2016
“Meri girlfriend chalti hai 525 Rs/Km pe aur OLA Micro sirf 6 rs/km”
Lol who wrote this. Apart from being sexist, makes no sense at all.

Fascinating that @olacabs nor their ad agency hasn’t registered that women use their services. Kyon uncles? https://t.co/w4U5LTNQiS

Huffington Post wrote a piece on how this ad is blatantly sexist.
But there were supporters too –

As you might have noticed, I’m on the side of the feminists, or the ‘feminazi’ because I am one. But we’re sure there’s merit on the other side too. Tell us your thoughts about this ad in the comments below!
