Sonam Kapoor and the entire team was absolutely splendid in Neerja. It’s one of the biggest films of the year and one of those movies that managed to strike a chord between box office numbers and critical acclaim. Sonam’s performance was filled with integrity and skill, and she is definitely going to be one of the strongest contenders for awards next year. Director Ram Madhvani has maintained that Sonam was the only person he had in mind for the role.
She really was our first choice. And if she would have said no, then we would have looked elsewhere. I am happy she said yes. There were many reasons why Sonam. She has been doing single female-oriented films where she goes up there and she helms.
However, according to a new set of reports, Alia Bhatt was also considered for the role. Apparently, Fox Star Studios wanted Alia to be part of the project, but co-producer Atul Kasbekar insisted that Sonam is a better fit because she’s taller than Alia.
Lost out by a few inches, it seems!
