Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, the woman who domesticated the most popular bachelor in the world (I’m talking about George Clooney) is all set to visit India to speak on human rights and freedom of expression. Amal, who specializes in international law and human rights, will be in the country as a part of the India Today Conclave 2016 later this week. She will present the closing argument on the right to dissent and free speech in repressive regimes. Here’s what she said in a statement –
I am thrilled to be returning to India, and to be participating in the Conclave with such a distinguished group of professionals. I look forward to a fruitful and timely discussion on human rights and freedom of expression in India today.
The discussion comes at a time when India is seeing a debate on intolerance and freedom of speech and expression. Sanjay Dutt, who recently completed his jail sentence, will speak about the ‘hard road to freedom’ at the two-day conclave, which begins on Thursday, 17th March. Amal will be a part of the conclave on Friday, 18th March.
Other distinguished speakers include Abhinav Bindra, MC Mary Kom, Gopichand Pullela, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi and Varun Grover.
