FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) has launched the first FLO Film Festival in Mumbai, the Film Capital of India, to showcase ‘Reel Woman Power’. The FLO Film Festival sponsored by Colors, Ponds, Drishyam Films, supported by UN Women, Government of Maharashtra, DNA, Radio One and many other partners, aims to enter the realm of thought leadership and advocacy, as well as to be the ‘Catalyst For Change through Film’. Being held in association with the Films Division of India, the FLO Film Festival will provide a platform to bring together the voices and expertise of leading Indian and Global media institutions and organisations that work towards creating gender sensitivity and women empowerment.
In the very first edition, an impressive line-up includes the shortlisted Oscar nominee Mustang, International Festival favourites Fatima, Tales, Siti, powerful documentaries Driving with Selvi, Boxing Girls of Kabul, The World Before Her, Under Construction, She Objects being amongst the 30-plus films that aim to steer a change in mindsets towards women stereotyping. The FLO Film Festival screenings will take place from 18 – 20 February at the Films Division Complex on Peddar Road.
Prior to the Festival, on 15th & 16th February, leading Film and Media Institutes and Organisations that include School of Media & Cultural Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Laadli from Population First and ITVS will hold a series of strategic Workshops on critical media education by ‘Unpacking the Media, Unpacking our Identities’; redefining inherent biases by reviewing films ‘Through the Gender Lens’; and ‘Changing the Story’ through measurable impact and a time-bound film intervention model.
The Festival Film Screenings from the 18th to the 20th will be followed by lively conversations and Q&As with attending International and Indian filmmakers including Rahul Bose, Elisa Paloschi, Selvi, Nicola Fan, Nisha Pahuja, Bishakha Dutta, Paromita Vohra to name a few.
The Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the festival with many luminaries including Sonam Kapoor, the actress playing the part of the soon-to-be premiered film Neerja.
