MY! How fast the time flies. It seems like just the other day I jotted down the style lessons that menfolk could take home from the 2015 Filmfare Awards that another one is upon us. While not as swashbuckling as the previous edition, this year’s event threw us some noteworthy menswear moves. So, without further ado, let me present to you the men who got it right on the biggest night in Bollywood…
Ronit Roy
It could be the gorgeous dinner suit that Daniel Craig sported in Spectre, which is still fresh in my mind, but I’m digging ivory for dinner jackets nowadays. And this number on Ronit Roy left all the right impression on me (although I wish the jacket sleeves were half-a-inch shorter). It had just the right amount of black accents, and most importantly, he’s looking a like a bonafide movie star. What’s not to love, aye?
Gulshan Devaiah
This outfit of Gulshan Devaiah brought a smile to my face! It’s quirky done right and he looks quite at home in it. Bless.
Ayushmann Khurrana
Ayushmann Khurrana’s outfit had me at the waistcoat. Guys, if you want to bring a nice point of difference to your suited up look in a formal do, I can’t extoll the virtues of a distinctive waistcoat enough. And if it’s in the shape of a horseshoe, all the more better.
Sooraj Pancholi
The new kid on the block erred on the side of timeless and in so doing, quietly stood out amongst many old-timers. I love that his stylists, Vainglorious, kept his proportions in mind and went for slim lapels and small bowtie. He looks confident and comfortable — the definition of effortlessness.
Manish Malhotra
Long-time readers know by now that I’m a sucker for desi menswear. So, there’s no way in hell that I’d have left out Manish Malhotra from this edit. Like last year, he showed up in a kurt suit, and like last year, looked impossibly elegant.
Anil Kapoor
Never far from our minds when compiling any best-dressed list, Anil Kapoor made us sit up and take notice by stepping out in one of our favourite colours — burgundy. It’s an outfit that works, thanks to its boldness and simplicity — both things that are important when pulling a fancy sartorial move like this. Needless to mention, the fit of the Dolce & Gabbana DB suit was spot on — may such felicitous combinations of person and tailoring continue forevermore!
Ranveer Singh
I’ve been drooling over this psychedelic dinner jacket the moment I clocked my eyes on it a year ago on TF’s A/W’15 look book (actually, all the dinner jackets from that collection!), so its sighting on a Bollywood red carpet got me all excited. And the fact that Ranveer Singh reined in his maximalist styling tendencies for this gorgeous number gladdened me. Now were the fit of the jacket more trimmer and the pocket square done up in a Presidential style, this look would have been my favourite of the night.
Fawad Khan
That distinction goes to Fawad Khan. Yep, for the second year in a row his was my fave look from the Filmfare Awards. Ah, Messr Khan, we missed you! It’s been, what, weeks, since we last bowed down to his sartorial greatness, and now that we have the opportunity to do so again, there’s a warm and fuzzy feeling in our stomachs. That tartan dinner jacket (by Brooks Brothers), those ankle-flashing trousers (by Camessi), the patent slippers (by Christian Louboutin)… all next level menswear moves, which he pulled off with such nonchalance! Mr Khan, my hat is well and truly off. (And a shout-out to his stylist too — Abhilasha Devnani!)
SO, which was your fave from the night?
