Guess the Midas touch of producer Sajid Nadiadwala is working out again as he is seeing a consistently good opening for each of his films ever since one can remember. His Tamasha, which is working well with its target audience, especially in the big cities and multiplexes, has enjoyed a good opening weekend of 38.23 crore.
With this, the film has turned out to be the 8th biggest opener of 2015, hence going past Tanu Weds Manu Returns (38 crore) and Dil Dhadakne Do (37 crore).
Here are the top-10 opening weekends of 2015 so far:
Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 102.6 crore
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – 101.47 crore [4-day weekend]
Singh Is Bliing – 54.44 crore
Brothers – 52.08 crore
Welcome Back – 51 crore
ABCD – Any Body Can Dance 2 – 46.35 crore
Gabbar Is Back – 40 crore
Tamasha – 38.23 crore
Tanu Weds Manu Returns – 38 crore
Dil Dhadakne Do – 37 crore
What is noticeable is the fact that each of the other films in the list (with an exception of Dil Dhadakne Do) is an out and out commercial film which was catering to multiplexes as well as single screens. However, for Tamasha to find itself at this position, and that too on the sheer power of just multiplexes is remarkable indeed.
While it has to be seen that how far does Tamasha go from this point on, it is rest assured that by the end of the year it would be in the list of top-10 opening weekends for sure as only two films would go past its weekend total – Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale.
