A lot of the roles played by Rani Mukerji, especially earlier in her career, were either made with someone else in mind or were offered to her after an actress rejected or was removed from the movie. Obviously, these films made her the powerhouse of talent she is today. But after Rani attained super-stardom, there were a few movies she rejected, some of which came to Vidya Balan and made her the superstar she is. Basically it’s a cycle. On that note, check out the movie Mrs. Chopra apparently rejected and tell me how different the movies would have been had she done these roles!

1) Gracy Singh’s role in Lagaan

Imagine Bollywood without Gracy Singh! Okay it’s not difficult to imagine that, but had Rani done the role we wouldn’t get to see Gracy Singh do this –

2) Priyanka Chopra’s role in Waqt

Apparently Priyanka’s character in Waqt was so rich, she had a swimming pool in her bedroom! Apart from that no one knows why Rani said no to this. She could have been a part of the iconic ‘Do me a favour let’s play Holi‘.

3) Ameesha Patel’s role in Mangal Pandey: The Rising

She chose the role of the courtesan instead, which was definitely meatier and more badass. Don’t blame her!

4) Vidya Balan’s role in Heyy Babyy

Maybe her wardrobe would have been better than Vidya’s in the movie.

5) Vidya Balan’s role in Bhool Bhulaiyaa

I understand Heyy Babyy, but why would anyone reject a role like Vidya’s in Bhool Bhulaiyaa? Anyway, Vidya did a smashing job and ‘Ami Manjulika‘ still sends shivers down my spine.

6) Tabu’s role in The Namesake

Tabu & Mira Nair shoot for The Namesake

This was a well published casting reshuffle, as Rani didn’t have dates for The Namesake. She was shooting for Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna at that time.

What do you think about all this? What’s on your mind?
