The chief of the Censor Board, Pahlaj Nihalni has been a butt of many jokes because of his decision to cut down kissing and sex scenes in the latest James Bond movie Spectre. But a lot of people in Bollywood are getting extremely upset due of this archaic ways. In a Mumbai Mirror report, Shyam Benegal said that censorship should be abolished.
I am concerned about the imposition of censorship here, which has no real purpose except to come in the way of your expression. That’s the kind of censorship I oppose. It doesn’t make sense.
Kabir Khan, said he found the situation ridiculous.
We have to be told as adults we can’t see a kiss? And a kiss being reduced from 30 seconds to 8 seconds? Are those 22 seconds going to destroy our morality and the culture of our country? This is absolutely ridiculous that the censor board has to act like a nanny.
Sonakshi Sinha said that previously, Hollywood (or International) movies never faced such unnecessary censorship in India.
Whoever is playing nanny should first kind of rewind back and see the films that they have been making and then kind of figure out and decide what is to be done.
We guess she’s referring to Khada Hai (the song Anil Kapoor is singing to Juhi Chawala in Pahlaj Nihalani’s movie Andaz.) Also, when Pahlaj is not cutting bits of every movie out there (including sanskari movies like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo) he’s busy making stuff like this.
Good times!
