In the last four weeks, the only film to register good business has been Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. In fact, not only has the film been a clean superhit at the box 0ffice, but it’s been a surprise one at that as most expected it to do around 40-45 crore, maximum. Still, even in its fourth week, the film had some moolah coming its way, hence crossing the 63 crore mark. The Luv Ranjan directed and Abhishek Pathak produced film is now out of theaters from most centers due to the Prem Ratan Dhan Payo euphoria. However, a few select multiplexes have still given it a show or two.
If not for Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, most theaters would have had no choice but to cancel the majority of their shows, especially in the last couple of weeks, as none of the films since its arrival have done well. Shaandaar was merely an opening weekend show and saw a disastrous crash after that. As for the dozen odd new releases, none could cross the 10 crore mark and most even failed to come near the 1 crore mark.
This was the tale for last weekend’s five releases as well which practically had just five days to score, what with the sixth day (Wednesday) being Diwali and the seventh day (Thursday) taken over by the early release of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. As a result, Charlie Ke Chakkar Mein (better of the lot), Yaara Silly Silly, Ranbanka and Four Pillars Of Basement have turned out to be theatrical disasters with lifetime collections ranging between 20 lakhs to 1 crore. Terrible!
Thankfully, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is arriving now and that should help mitigate the deficit to a good extent!
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources.
