Every Indian ’90’s kid will agree that the age of Indie-Pop was the best time in music. It was the time Falguni Pathak appeared often on our television screens even if it wasn’t Navratri, it was the time Sonu Nigam wasn’t defending Radhe Maa but putting out great music. But we have to admit, there were some songs that were a little annoying. That’s not really the problem, the problem is that these songs are still stuck in our heads! 1) Oh Meri Munni
Remo Fernandes‘s ballad about Munni and her crush on Remo was quite annoying but strangely catchy. Speaks volumes about the greatness of the song if I can still remember lines like ‘hoton pe lipstick, gaalon pe rouge, catwalk karegi teri high heel shoes‘.
2) Tum Toh Thehre Pardesi
It’s a 14-minute long song! But tum toh thehre pardesi sung by the iconic Altaf Raja will always remain etched in our memories, even if we don’t sing the song unless extremely drunk and extremely nostalgic.
3) Mujhko Piya Ki Yaad Sataye
Preeti and Pinky‘s foray into indie-pop with Mujhko Piya Ki Yaad Sataye was basically their popular Piya Piya (from Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega) on steroids. Similar sets, similar bathtub-sharing closeness, similar everything.
4) Pehle Toh Kabhi Kabhi Gham Tha
Really, Altaf Raja was the raja of bad songs that remain stuck in your head for the longest time. The plus here is that this song is ‘just’ 4 minutes long, unlike the one above.
5) Deewane Toh Deewane Hain
Shweta Shetty has her own brand of charm, but the charm comes along with the fact that her songs can be jarring but insanely catchy! Case in point, Deewane and the classic – Tote Tote Ho Gaya.
6) Dekho Baarish Ho Rahi Hai
Oldie but goldie. This song is my anthem during the monsoons in Bombay. IT’S RAINING IT’S RAINING IT’S RAININGGGG
7) I Love You O Sayyoni
Himesh Reshammiya revolutionized Indie-Pop music. Agreed this wasn’t the ’90’s but admit it, at least one song from his Aap Ka Suroor album was stuck in your head, however, annoying you found his voice. For me it’s – I love you oh sayyoni, koi shak? What’s up? Smooth.
8) Mohabbatein Lutaaunga
Why do I know this song? This is a question I ask myself all day.
9) Aye Sanam
What a catchy number, what a trippy video, where is Abbey?
10) Mehndi Lagaongi
You know you will hum along to this song, even if you find it stupid and the girl’s mehendi tattoo quite repulsive.

11) Chui Mui Si Tum Lagti Ho
Preeti Jhangiani‘s claim to fame apart from Mohabbatien will never get old, will it?
