As we told you before, Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha has been touring North America. Creating a sensation, and maintaining a streak of ALL Housefull shows, it would be an understatement to say that the play ROCKS. In fact, extra shows are being added due to popular demand. The audience just can’t get enough. All of this accolade with a good reason, though. The play has audience members reminiscing about their first loves. What makes the story incredible is the amount of power in its simplicity. You will fall in love… it is inevitable.
Plan on getting your tickets early because each show is bound to sell out. Watching the effortless chemistry between Mr. Anupam Kher and Ms. Neena Gupta is an absolute treat for any theater lover. Impeccable transitions were sewn in with soliloquies and asides performed by Mr. Kher. As an audience member, I could not help but notice what a trance Mr. Kher had the audience members in. Absolutely mesmerizing. Watching him on stage is magical. When he laughs, the audience laughs. When Mr. Kher cries, the audience cries with him. Ms. Neena Gupta’s acting for the play has been nothing short of perfection either. There is a scene, which I won’t give specifics on for those who haven’t watched the play yet, when there was pin-drop silence in the auditorium because all of us viewers had goose bumps from her painstakingly real portrayal of the character.
The absolutely genius idea of using flashbacks during the play proved to be a super hit among viewers. Comic relief was sprinkled in at the most opportune times with the help of Mr. Satish Kaushik and the Writer/Director of the play, Mr. Rakesh Bedi himself. The poetic dialogues definitely added the icing on top. Even the standing ovations did not do justice to the magic that was on the stage. Watch Mera Who Matlab Nahi Tha on a stage near you and be prepared to be enthralled. You will laugh, you will cry, you will reminisce and you will vouch to never take another moment for granted. I can’t seem to stop raving about the play!
“Yaad karne per beeta hua such bhi dukh he deta hai”
“Qat’ee keejay na t’aaluq hum se
kuchh nahin hai to adaawat hi sahi”
I’m sure you already realize that saying the play has been a super-hit is the understatement of the century. August 7th, 2015 was declared Anupam Kher Day in Houston. Texas fell so deeply in love with him that he was declared an honored guest and honorary citizen of the State of Texas. I’m hoping this means that Mr. Kher will keep coming back!
Even the Canadian Government and the Prime Minister recognized Mr. Kher’s efforts to share Indian arts and culture. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas… well, unless you are Mr. Kher. In his case, September 10th 2015 was declared Anupam Kher Day in order to celebrate him in the city, and the rest of the world.
Did you know that Mr. Robert De Niro invited Mr. Kher to his exclusive 72nd birthday party? Mr. Kher tweeted, “Privileged to be invited by Mr. Robert De Niro for his birthday in NY. Met up with David O’Russel & Bradley Cooper. :)” The celebrations just don’t stop!
For those of you that don’t know yet, Mr. Kher has been appointed as the ambassador for gender equality by the United Nations. He will be endorsing the HeForShe movement that pledges to work with men and boys in India to achieve gender equality while contributing to the UN Women’s HeForShe campaign to take measures to end violence against women and girls.
Take a bow, Team MWMNT. You have made India proud. #JaiHind
