If you don’t already know from the various social media posts, the beauty blogger (me) went to Singapore to visit the P&G lab. Yes, labs are exactly how you imagine them to be: people in white lab coats and a modern, borderline futuristic work environment. We were at the lab to test and learn whatever we could about Pantene’s new formula of shampoo and conditioner. By we, I mean Lisa Haydon, Shibani Dandekar, Krystle D’Souza, and a small circle of people including me. We tested various different formulas on real hair and realized that Pantene’s new formula kicks butt. In fact, I even tested the new formula against another leading shampoo on real hair and guess what? The hair washed with Pantene was way more manageable. You’d be surprised at the amount of tests and research that goes into creating this new formula: everything from machines to asking real women to give it a try! Only after various processes are completed, does Pantene promise to bring you a path-breaking product that seeps into your core to bring you stronger hair that’s shinier on the outside.
During our day at the lab, I got to spend time with Shibani, Krystle, and Lisa: women who regularly use Pantene to keep their locks luscious and shiny! I asked them a whole bunch of hair and beauty-related questions. Take a look.
While that was interesting, it isn’t all I learned. I also learned 5 things about my hair from Pantene experts, Dr. Jeni Thomas, Principle Scientist, Pantene Hair Research Institute and Dr. Shean Lim, who guided us through the lab. Here goes.
Your hair needs to be strong at the core.
This is the eternal rule. Only then, does shiny, bouncy, and voluminous follow.
Your hair can absorb up to 30% of the surrounding humidity.
It’s very important to seal your tips and keep them healthy from the root all the way down so the ends don’t absorb too much humidity and frizz up in humid environments. That’s why it’s so important to use a shampoo and conditioner that strengthens your hair from within.
Washing your hair every day isn’t wrong.
It’s okay to do this if your scalp is oily, just make sure you’re using a good shampoo and you condition afterwards. It’s important to work with the kind of hair you have. I, for one, have an oily scalp, but I now use Pantene as often as I want because I know it doesn’t harm my hair.
Brushing your hair more often doesn’t make it shinier.
Brushing your hair does spread the oils and even out your hair, but this isn’t exactly making it shinier. Brushing more and more won’t make it any better. The only way hair will stay shiny is if it gets a regular dose of strengthening from the inside-out.
Your hair is weak when it’s wet.
Yes, this is true. This is why you should avoid the sun (try heat spray) when it’s wet. Leave-in serums or conditions are also applied to damp or wet hair. We should handle our hair with care when it’s wet as it breaks easily.
Life-changing, right? I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely opting for Pantene. I might just have Lisa Haydon-worthy hair in a few months! For more updates, follow Pantene on Facebook & Twitter.
