Our first day at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2015 began with a show put up by some of India’s upcoming design stars.
INIFD presented its 20th batch of GenNext designers including: Ajay Kumar (kaleidoscopic, psychedelic prints), Charchit Bafna (androgynous silhouettes that translate well on men and women), Kriti Tula – Doodlage (luxe garments from industry wastes), Jebin Johny – Jebsispar (a wonderful mix of the Kathak dance and the Japanese Kabuki dance), Ishita Mangal (an interesting crime scene theme), Shivangi Sahni (a boho-luxe collection, and Siddhartha Bansal (inspired by ethnic havelis and architecture).

Speaking of upcoming designers, we also saw a show put on by the Grazia Young Fashion Awards’ winners: Pallavi Dhyani – Three (nightwear stripes and a lot of monochrome, dressed up with layering), Ragini Ahuja – Ikai (a darker look created with different fabrics and neutrals), Chandamma Cariappa (khadi shoes), Malvika Vaswani – Andalus (accessories inspired by Moorish architecture, Sahil Kochar (florals and ethnic wear from neoprene and appliqué), Tina and Nikita Sutradhar – Miuniku (a luxurious and glittering party theme), Ujjwal Dubey – Antar Agni (stripes and silhouettes in his signature style with dark colors for the Winter), Sayoni Chaterjee – Sayon (eyewear made of walnut wood frames), Karuna Laungani & Gauri Verma – Jodi (inspired by flora and fauna in bright colors).

Established designers, Nikhil Thampi and Payal Singhal‘s new collections were absolutely amazing. Nikhil Thampi showed a sensuous indo-western line with drapes and sexy cuts. His line gave me somewhat of a warrior princess vibe. Meanwhile, Payal Singhal played with geometric patterns and changed-up the regular ethnic silhouettes. Her line also had a lot of darker colors for the winter.

Huemn gave us loud animal prints and a vivacious collection while Ilk stayed monochrome with layering and checks. Quirkbox stuck to its quirky mix of colors, this time with a marriage of darker hues and multiple prints.

Krishna Mehta showed us bright colors and bouncing silhouettes with eye-catching prints and layering. Little Shilpa‘s line went from androgynous, office cuts to colorful and playful, just like the Baggit bags that complimented her collection for a Lakmé Fashion week collaboration.
