Almost a year ago, when Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, released, it turned out to be a good success while also registering the biggest ever opening for Varun Dhawan. With the opening day collections of 9 crore, it ensured a safe ride ahead for the film. Now Varun Dhawan can be assured that his release tomorrow, ABCD 2, would have an even bigger start.
There are many factors going in the film’s favor. First and foremost, Varun is enjoying an unbeatable streak of four successes in a row (Student of the Year, Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, Badlapur) and is being considered as a dependable star. Secondly, Shraddha Kapoor has managed a good fan following as well since Aashiqui 2. Thirdly, the film is a sequel to ABCD, a much loved film that did well despite no known names as the main leads. Fourthly, the film’s music is enjoyable and though there is no huge chartbuster, the soundtrack as a whole works. Fifth – the film has rightly been targeted for families.
To add to this, there are bonus elements in the form of Prabhudheva as the dancing star and 3D as an offering. A solo arrival is a huge positive as well. With UTV going all out to promote the film across all platforms, it is a given that the film would take a very good opening. It has to be seen though whether the film would be the biggest opener for Shraddha Kapoor too since her Ek Villain had enjoyed an opening day of almost 17 crore, a huge feat indeed. Though that will be too high a number to reach, anything over a 10 crore opening day would be a matter of celebration for the Remo D’Souza directed affair.
