… If I had a dollar for each time I heard that question escape one of my many female friends’ lips, I’d be a very rich woman today. We’re all living in the daring new world of 21st century modern-day dating and each interaction with anyone from the opposite sex seems like this elaborate art of seduction. The seduction game is so elaborate that I don’t even think we’ve managed to come up with an apt enough hashtag for it! And that is really saying something.
But seriously, where have all the good guys gone? Have none of them managed to return from that Facebook event that was hosting ‘International Grab A Boob Day’ on May 3 (I’m NOT making this up!) or is the legend about the witch who eats up all the great men, in fact, true? Sigh.
The good part about this question – where have all the good guys gone? – is that it doesn’t assume that men were always bad. It operates on the belief that we did live in the world which was filled with great guys and now, for some strange reason, they’ve all disappeared. This has nothing to do with the fact that women everywhere have gotten really cynical (and at the same time, delusional!) about the idea of love *nods hysterically*.
So ladies, here I am, letting you in on the secret that’ll change your life! Where have all the good guys gone, you ask? Well, nowhere! There I said it. Here’s what you need to do in your pursuit of a good guy:
1. Put Yourself Out There
The first step towards finding the right guy is not looking for him. Confused? Don’t be. The thing is that you can’t go on in life obsessing about wanting a partner. What you can do is going out there and having a good time. Put yourself out there and you’d be surprised yourself by just how much you have to offer!
2. Don’t Be Afraid
I know I know! We’ve all been brought up to believe that it is the man’s responsibility to make the first move. But times have changed, girl! Don’t be afraid to take the first step towards something you think will give you happiness. Make eye contact, ask for his number, take him out… there’s nothing he can do that you can’t.
3. Trust The Universe
And I can’t say this enough! Be confident, smile more, go on fun dates, flirt fabulously and then sit back and let the Universe do its thing.
4. Meet New People
Get your friends to make you meet their friends. It is a small world, after all. Chat up the cute guy you’ve been eyeing at the gym. Star a conversation with the guy from work who always sits at the next table for lunch. It’s only when you meet new people will you realize the “type” of person you want to be around.
5. Online Dating
The world of online dating opens up a whole new arena of opportunities and people! If you, like me, are glued to your phone for most parts of the day and could have a degree in cyber stalking if it were legit, online dating is for you. There are so many apps available for it now and one particular dating app that we’re currently crushing on is Truly Madly. I think it makes dating cool in a way that it is not designed for random hook ups and simply matches you to a bunch of verified singles. You can then choose to chat with folks you think are right for you. Simple. 🙂
Pro Tip: Trust your instinct! I think not enough is said about the need for women to not give up. If he’s not the right fit, don’t stick around.
It really is that simple! Go out there, filter out the creeps, enjoy the attention, have a meaningful conversation, don’t forget to have fun while you’re at it – and you never know, maybe one of those many “good guys” is destined to be your soulmate.
This post is in partnership with our friends at TrulyMadly. The app is available on the App Store, Google Play and Windows Store. Check outTrulyMadly.com and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
