If you’re one of those people who’ve taken the plunge into online dating, you know that it can sometimes be odd, sometimes be scary, and sometimes be really, really rewarding. Honestly, online dating is fun, entertaining, and a whole new experience. The best part? You meet a ton of people along the way, and that always makes it worth it. People like:
1. The one who likes collecting matches
Admit it, girls, you probably fall into this category more than the men do. You’re practically drowning in matches, but then suddenly realise that holding conversations with sooo many different people at one time can be pretty taxing. So you filter and pick two or three you continue conversation with, and the others just think you’re in it for “collecting matches” and not having actual conversation.
2. The penpal
You match, you talk – but when it comes to meeting up, no plan seems to ever get made. You’ve decided that all this person wants is a penpal, not someone they actually meet and connect with in real life.
3. The “how come I never met you before?!” person
Maybe you have a ton of mutual friends. Maybe you stay in the same area. Maybe you went to the same school. Either way, it’s super weird to you that you’ve run into this person online but never did in real life, despite numerous opportunities. +1 for online dating apps!
4. The gym nut
Is this a dating profile or is he entering to win the “world’s hottest body” competition? You can’t tell, because every single picture is shirtless, showing off his – admittedly hot – body.
5. The actor
You know you’ve seen him/her in that indie film or that television show or that ad that keeps playing on your TV. And it’s blowing your mind that you’ve made a connection on an app!
6. The one who pays attention
This person knows that it can be hard to break through the online dating clutter, and acts accordingly: the first message you get is a witty quip related to your interests or your bio, which makes continuing conversation a lot easier. (Fun fact: Someone once used a Harry Potter pick-up line on me – “I must have unwittingly used ‘accio’ to attract you to me” – and it was incredible.)
7. The “one”
Despite all your cynicism, you manage to match, connect and interact with someone you’re genuinely into – and suddenly, you find this blossoming into something that might actually be a thing. And you realise it would have never happened if you didn’t take the plunge and put yourself out there – that is the best feeling ever. 🙂
