The supremely talented writer-director and my spirit animal, Zoya Akhtar gave an interview to Bombay Times published this morning. In the interview, she spoke at length about how different the Akthars are from the Mehras (the dysfunctional bunch we can’t wait to watch in Dil Dhadakne Do) and how unique yet similar she and Farhan Akhtar are. But, what caught my attention the most was her answer to the question whether she’s a feminist or not.
I find it strange when people say they are not, as if you believe in equality of men and women, if you believe that women should be educated, that they should have autonomy of their own body and have equal opportunity and be paid as much as men for the same job, you are a feminist.
Well said! I think this is why Farhan is so passionate about equal rights, he’s surrounded by such brilliant women. I don’t know about anyone else but I’d surely watch a film based on the Akhtars Zoya!
