If there’s one thing every makeup artist can agree on, it’s that base is everything. It’s what you build the rest of your makeup on and to a certain extent, it allows you to get away with having less than perfect blush or shadow. Base is ACE, guys.
So, I’m going to list 5 things you can add or improvise in your foundation routine to rock a flawless face game forever.
1. Blurring
Instead of a heavy cover up, opt for blurring to keep the look natural. Blur out and disguise your flaws, but still be you. Cakey foundation is clearly visible, so use light coverage all over your face. Instead of concentrating on one flaw, just make sure your skin looks bright and happy overall.
2. Prime
Make sure your primer doesn’t peel after an hour or so. The only way you can find out is by testing it. My favorite primer secret is to apply a heavy duty moisturizer, it can be water based if you have oily skin, all over my face. Leave no dry patch uncovered. This way, you have on smooth canvas to apply your foundation.
3. Dab
Use a tissue and dab lightly after you’ve applied moisturizer to remove excess moisturizer. You don’t want greasy makeup.
4. The Orange Factor
Make sure your foundation doesn’t oxidize and go orange or darker after a couple of hours. Use a bronzer for a tanned finish. Orange skin is not a good look. This too, you will only know after testing.
Everyone’s skin is different, so what works for you may not work for someone else. If you want to make the most of an oxidizing foundation, mix a little bit of a lighter concealer and perhaps, an illuminator before you apply it. Be sure to touch up with loose powder or a compact through the day.
5. Dot The Foundation And Blend
Whatever method you choose to apply your foundation with, dot it along the skin first and then blend outwards. Remember what we learned about blending at our Bobbi Brown Masterclass?
Finish with a little loose powder and your base should be good to go!
