It’s no secret that Mr X failed to woo the audiences – the film’s fate at the box office was no doubt a blow to Emraan Hashmi, who has – unfortunately – been facing rejection from the audiences as of late. In fact, there are some people who have begun writing obituaries for the actor already, given the fact that he hasn’t seen box office success in so long.
It’s not just Emraan, though – it’s clear that the folks over at Fox Star Studios and Vishesh Films have been pretty disappointed with the result of Mr X as well. In fact, Mahesh Bhatt was even quoted in a report earlier this morning where he hinted that the problem lay with the marketing team, and hence the film failed to get a good opening. That doesn’t seem to be entirely accurate, though, because if you think about it, Mr X managed to be Emraan’s biggest opener in the last three years. His last film, Ungli, collected 2.5 crore in its opening day, whereas Mr X opened to 4.5 crores.
It seems that Mr Bhatt has since revised his statement, as he took to Twitter to clarify that the problem with the film was its content, not marketing. Here’s what he said:
BLAME ME : It is content & content alone which is responsible for a films failure . Mr X bombeb at the box office because of my content !!

I will not pass the buck of the failure of Mr X to the Fox marketing team. We at Vishesh must take things in our stride & move on! — Mahesh Bhatt (@MaheshNBhatt) April 30, 2015
And move on they will – Vishesh and Fox now have Humari Adhuri Kahaani coming up, so all eyes will be on that flick. It remains to be seen, though, what Emraan’s next step will be, and whether the audiences will begin accepting him again.
