It’s one of the biggest Bollywood cliches of all time: the rain dance. I don’t mean the holi wala rain dance, although that counts too. I mean, like the epitome of romance, when the guy and girl finally come together, sparks fly and he’s attracted to her extremely bheega hua badan (Somehow it sounds less perverse in Hindi, no?). Notice how when we’re doing our paani wala dance or just walking around during the monsoon season, either our eyeliner or mascara or something is literally dripping down to our neck? It takes a whole lot of effort to deal with that situation.
While I sit here and complain about the upcoming monsoon, take a look at how on point and waterproof, even back in the ’90s, Bollywood makeup has been during these rain and romance sequences. And we’re supposed to believe her bheege hoth and curls are the result of nature? Sure!
1) Tip Tip Barsa Pani
This iconic number had Raveena Tandon doing pelvic thrusts and thumkas. Despite the under-construction rooftop situation and the pouring rain, her lipstick, contour game, and brow game stay strong!
2) Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye
Remember those days when you’re bored at home and you just feel like going out in the rain? Kajol has a similar moment in DDLJ, except she sits at home with waterproof blush, pink lips, and a dollop of mascara. But hey, I guess you never know with the London weather.
3) Zoobi Doobi
So, this one’s kind of justified because they’re “imitating” Bollywood, but girrrl… mascara and liner on fleek!
4) Laga Prem Rog
No blush or bronzer stays on like that in the rain… or does such a product exist? Pray tell.
5) Chak Dhoom Dhoom
That’s some berry lips and berry eyeshadow lovin’, that stays on no matter how much Madhuri Dixit Nene jumps in the rain and mud.
6) Jo Haal Dil Ka
Whoaaa lashes and whoaaa berry lips strike again!
7) Hum Tum
And I mean no offense to Rani Mukherjee, but really, such flawless foundation… in the rain?
8) Rim Jhim
There is no way your hair can fall so beautifully on your face after a downpour, plus all your lashes stay up?
9) Taal Se Taal
This is so natural, despite the makeup, but do we expect any less from the most beautiful woman in the world?
10) On The Roof, In The Rain
That much gloss, plus rain equals eww. Come on, you know that icky sticky feeling!
Did I miss an iconic song or did makeup from any other rain sequence stand out to you? Let us know.
P.S – Watch out for a blog on how to make your makeup last through the monsoon. Why? Because I feel your pain.
