Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is Team MissMalini‘s favourite Sunday movie and for good reason! The movie is perfection and in my opinion Karan Johar‘s best work. So obviously I decided to dig into the trivia section of IMDb and old Koffee With Karan interviews to collate 10 things you might not know about this magnum opus. Check it out.
1) Abhishek Bachchan had a cameo role.
He later asked Karan Johar to remove his scene from the final copy of the movie, but the scene made it to K3G‘s YouTube channel.
2) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was considered for a part in the movie.
I’m curious to know which part it was! Any guesses?
3) Waheeda Rehman was initially cast as Amitabh Bachchan’s mother.
The veteran actress even filmed some scenes. However, her husband passed away during the making and she dropped out. Achala Sachdev filled in for this role instead. It would have been fun to see Waheeda Rehman and Amitabh Bachchan play mother-son again after featuring in classics like Trishul and Namak Halal.
4) Before making it big, John Abraham was offered the role of Robbie, but he declined.
Remember Robbie?
John would later play the lead role in two Karan Johar productions – Kaal and Dostana, so I guess he didn’t really miss much.
5) The song ‘It’s Raining Men’ was used without permission from the right holders.
Karan was sued in an UK court and was sentenced to pay. Too bad, I think the song suited Kareena Kapoor way more than Geri Halliwell.
6) Karan signed Hrithik to play the character of Rohan after watching a rough cut of the latter’s debut film, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai!
See, Karan always knew that Hrithik would be a super star!
7) Ramona Arena played Poo’s friend!
At that time she was Ramona Sunavala who then went on to become a popular VJ at MTV. She’s now a singer as well as a host. Poo’s minion has come a long way hasn’t she?
Started from the bottom –
And now we’re here!
8) Yash Johar was the inspiration for Yashvardhan Raichand!
Actually, not just Amitabh Bachchan’s character, the entire movie was a homage to Karan’s parents!
9) Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was one of the first Indian films that had a making-of book written for it.
Always a trend-setter.
10) And finally, the Prince of Bollywood – Aryan Khan’s made his movie debut with K3G!
He played Shah Rukh Khan’s childhood in the opening credits! Seriously, Shah Rukh’s kids are going to rule the world, only on the basis of their dimples one day!
Do you love the movie as much as I do? Tell me your favourite scene!
