Did you know that the first ever Barbie created by Mattel in 1959 didn’t wear pink. In fact, she wore a bathing suit with black and white stripes. It’s weird because I always imagined the first Barbie wearing pink, which got me doing a little research on vintage Barbies. Turns out, some still sell at pretty sky rocketing prices, when they originally used to be available for about $3. Here are 5 Barbies that still appeal to our fashion aesthetic today.

This reproduction of the 1968 Barbie is inspired by the mod era. Her vibrant outfit and fishnet stockings are true to the ‘All That Jazz’ phase.

This was one of the first ever black barbies and oh-em-gee, isn’t the outfit fabulous? This Barbie stays true to the popular African American Afro hairstyle, especially popular in the ’80s.
