Not all mascaras are created equally. Of course, we knew this, but what we didn’t know is that it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Some of us have long, but unkempt lashes. Some of us have short lashes and some of us need more volume. Sometimes, we want to kill two birds with one stone. What do we do in a situation like this? Understand our mascara brushes and maybe even layer one mascara on top of the other. Here’s what you need to understand.
1) Double Helix Wand
This kind of a brush, with a traditional mascara brush shape and spaced out bristles, lengthens and separates the lashes. It adds a little bit of volume for a doll-like effect.
2) Comb Wand
This wand will lengthen and separate your lashes for a non-clumpy effect. You may need a little extra help with curling.
3) The Dense Wand
These tightly-packed bristles add a lot of thickness and volume to your lashes. This is perfect for spidery lashes!
4) The Heart Shaped Wand
A wand like this will coat all those hard to reach places. A lot of mascaras even come with a regular wand and a heard or dome-shape at the tip. In this case, a tiny wand is an added benefit.
5) Curved Wands
Curved wands curl your lashes in the direction that you want them to go.
Quick Tip: Comb them out with a regular wand or a comb wand in a downward direction and then use a curved brush to push them upwards for long, curled lashes.
6) The Liner Brush
These kind of brushes may be more rare, but you can individually coat every lash for a super thick finish with a liner-like brush. In fact, you can even use your liquid liner to achieve this effect.
When you’re mixing and layering, be careful of the formula. You don’t want to use more product over a coat of mascara that has hardened or formed a dry layer. And it’s always easier to lengthen and separate before you go for thickness and volume.
