Very recently, Shreemi from Team MissMalini gave us 10 Honest Reasons Why Hum Saath Saath Hain Was Actually A Cringefest. I know it was her opinion and I shouldn’t have taken it so personally, but I did! And you’ll know what I am saying if you are a ’90s baby. I didn’t sit in front of the television weekend after weekend watching the film for nothing. I feel it’s my responsibility to explain the world (and Shreemi) why Hum Saath Saath Hain is a treat to watch. Read on:
1. The Most Functional Family EVER!
Just look at this family! Everyone belonged there and had a function. If Alok Nath brought sanskaar to the table, then Reema Lagoo rocked as Rajshri’s Kaushalya (Ramayana reference!). Of course, we cannot overlook Himani Shivpuri‘s contribution to songs at all! Had even one person been missing, the family would have seemed so incomplete.
2. Family Honeymoon
They probably shouldn’t have called it a “honeymoon,” but it was such a great family outing, guys! The trip was a win-win for everyone. Tabu got pregnant by the time they came back, Saif Ali Khan got engaged to Karisma Kapoor and Salman Khan finally made a move towards Sonali Bendre! Moreover, Monish Behl didn’t seem like the most fun husband in the movie anyway… I think Tabu was rather glad to have the family come along.
3. Starry-eyed Sonali
Sonali’s reaction to everything was just about right! How else would you react if you get to romance Salman Khan? Yes, they were both shy but that was the beauty of the relationship. Just watch it for their aankhon-aankhon mein romance and you’ll know what I mean.
4. Reema Lagoo’s Minions
These women deserve a special mention because they were never the mainstream villains. Other than the one time they influenced Mamta (Reema Laagoo) against her own son *looks away*, they were just silly, ridiculous and hilarious! Remember how one of her friends (Kalpana Iyer) hit on mama ji (Ajit Vachhani) – so cute!
5. Welcoming The Bahu Song
Because not every bahu in Indian families gets this kind of a welcome! And have you seen how accurately they introduce each character? For a family that big, Tabu really needed this!
6. Jazz Hands, Who?
This step could be a dance form on its own! Jazz hands, who? I don’t understand how no choreographer has ever thought of developing this.
7. Kids
I always knew those kids got a bright future! The eldest had weird expressions but no surprise that baby girl Zoya Afroz is now eating ice-creams with Himesh Reshammiya. Watch her to know how she has transformed to looking like this.
8. Satish Shah and Sadashiv Amrapurkar
They have definitely done more memorable roles but they were instrumental in taking the film forward, especially Sadashiv Amrapurkar. He was one of the biggest reasons for the daraar in the family. Satish Shah provided comic relief, like he usually does, just when he appears on screen! (You guys can sense how much I love him, right?)
9. Because Zee Cinema Loves It Too
This film is so sanskari that even Zee Cinema can’t help but air it almost every weekend. And you can’t tell me that of all those times, you haven’t even seen it even once!
P.S- By the second time, it starts working its magic… Try it!
Getting a feel of it already? Go watch it now and tell me what you think 🙂 You too, Shreemi!
