Recently, Deepika Padukone attended a chat show, Let’s talk Depression by NDTV, where she spoke about her battle with depression for the first time on camera. She was accompanied by her mom, Ujjwala Padukone and counsellor, Anna Chandy. And each of them opened up about the issues faced by DP in the recent past. The celebrated heroine broke down while talking about the emptiness she used to feel. She also discussed how she overcame the situation with professional help. Here’s a video featuring a few excerpts from the chat.
During the chat, she said:
I felt empty, a bit anxious, a bit blank. My breathing was different, shallow, I took uneven breaths, sometimes I even gasped for breath. I felt a knot in my stomach that just wouldn’t go. I would have bouts of feeling so low that I would start crying at the drop of the hat. There were times I’d feel okay, and there were times I’d feel really low. Sometimes, being around people helped, sometimes it didn’t help… There were days I just wanted to be in bed, just sleep; not wake up.
Here’s saluting the dusky damsel for braving the storm with such grace and elegance and also having the courage to speak about it. Hats off, DP!
