Christian Bale turns 41 today and man, what a prolific career! He’s been the best Batman, the craziest Patrick Bateman and starved himself to a mere 27 kg for The Machinist! They don’t make them like Bale anymore, they can’t make them like him anymore because he’s amazing and original. That’s why we think you need to take a look at his 5 best performances.
1) American Psycho
Christian Bale played Patrick Bateman in the cult classic American Psycho and murdered people because he HAD to.
Only this guy could pull off such a hate-able character and turn him into one of the most popular anti-heroes in popular culture.
2) The Dark Knight
He literally resurrected the Batman franchise after the 1999 debacle that was George Clooney‘s Batman and Robin. Without Christian Bale we’d have no Batman trilogy! We all know that The Dark Knight has been the best of the three and even though Heath Ledger stole the show as The Joker, Christian held his own and made Batman the icon of this generation.
3) The Machinist
27 KGS! HE WEIGHED 27 KGS FOR THIS ROLE! WHO DOES THAT? WHO? Christian Bale, that’s who.
4) American Hustle
With American Hustle, Bale won his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and in my heart I really wanted him to win. Too bad Matthew Mcconaughey won. Too bad!
5) Little Women
He was so young when he played the perfect Laurie to Winona Ryder‘s Jo, but she rejects him (how could anyone REJECT Christian Bale?!) he does end up with Amy though, so alls well that ends well. The movie was primarily dominated by women and I just put it in the list because I love this book!
