Some say oil your hair, some say don’t and my dadi absolutely despises those people who say ‘don’t.’ Most desi grandmoms do, no? No seriously, she’s always finding excuses to put oil in my hair. If you’re experimental like me, then even the regular champi has to have a twist and an upgrade every now and then. For this week’s oiling of the hair ritual, I opted for Soul Tree’s aamla & brahmi hair oil.
Even though I don’t believe hair oil is the solution to all hair problems, it can definitely give your hair the boost it needs from time to time, especially if you can’t always make it to the hair salon. There are 3 regular rules I stick to when oiling my hair.
1) Leave It On For At Least A Couple Of Hours
Nope, this one hour quick trick doesn’t work. In order for oil to really penetrate your roots, it’s got to sit there for a while. Wrap your head in a towel and get onto your chores for maximum effectiveness.
2) Don’t Overload On Oil
Instead of using more oil, massage more into your scalp. Do this gently because we don’t want hair fall. But it’s important to massage your scalp to stimulate healthy hair grown. Too much oil kind of defeats the purpose of oiling your hair because then you work doubly hard trying to remove the oil when you shampoo. See the irony?
3) Shampoo Right
Shampoo away all the oil from your scalp because most of it should’ve seeped in. But don’t over dry your ends, that’s where a little oil will keep your hair from getting frizzy. It’ll set amazingly! Dry as usual and voilà … you’ve got gorgeous hair! While you’ve got your hair sorted, try out Soul Tree’s viola and kokum butter lip balm. It’s a miracle moisturizer, especially in the winter, plus it smells amazing!
