Holiday Movies

I love the holidays. Wherever you live, you can’t get away from that festive cheer and the warmth of being around family. With Christmas just a few days away, it’s the perfect time for a family reunion. Snuggling up under the duvet with the family as you watch a comforting flick is sheer bliss. Here are some of my holiday favourites that never fail to bring out the best of the holiday spirit in all of us.

1) It’s a Wonderful Life

This one is the ultimate heartwarming holiday classic. It makes you believe in angels and in yourself. I love how the protagonist George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) celebrates the human spirit and isn’t that what Christmas should be about anyway?

2) Home Alone

This one’s a childhood favourite. It evokes a certain sense of nostalgia and is just as funny each time you watch an eight year old pull off crazy pranks on two burglars trying to break into his home while his parents are away.

3) Polar Express

This Tom Hanks classic is the ultimate feel-good movie. I loved the movie when I first saw it but over the years I began to cherish it even more for the beautiful message that it conveys. The spirit of Christmas can only come alive in your heart when you truly believe in it and see the wonder of it all. For inspiring that faith in miracles in me, this one’s a clear winner.

4) Love, Actually

I remember watching this one on Christmas Day last year for like the hundredth time and still completely falling in love with it all over again. This endearing tale of eight different love stories weaved into one amazing festive rom-com is such an amazing way to celebrate the special people in our own lives.

5) Elf

Will Ferrell and his superior acting skills makes this one so charming that you will love to revisit it this holiday season. I love how funny Buddy the elf is and it is most definitely way better written than a lot of Christmas movies I’ve seen over the years.

I’m all snuggled up with some marshmallowy hot chocolate ready to embark on a movie marathon of my favourite holiday flicks with the family. What are the holiday classics that you love and the ones you wish to have on your holiday playlist this year?
