No sooner did PK hit the theatres than the praises started pouring in for producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra for his belief in extraordinary works of art. If we throw a light on his past works, we see how his graph has only gone up with films like 3 Idiots, the Munnabhai franchise, Parineeta, Mission Kashmir and A 1942 Love Story.
It seems like Chopra is at the zenith of his career with another film, Broken Horses – his first mainstream Hollywood venture – written, directed and produced by the man himself. He is the first Indian film maker to do so, so it’s clear that this is a big, gutsy leap! However, this attempt by Chopra has paid off very well so far, since he has received appreciation by two of the biggest Hollywood directors.
“Broken Horses is an artistic triumph. Beautifully written, acted and imaged, this film wraps slowly around you like a king snake and squeezes,” said James Cameron, director of Avatar.
“Broken Horses overwhelmed me. The greatness of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s films comes from the act that all his characters are driven by love,” said Alfonso Cuaron, director of Gravity.
The movie is set on the US-Mexico gang wars, inspired by an original story. It is a heart-wrenching thriller based upon the bonds of brotherhood, loyalty and frivolousness of violence in life. The story is co-written by Abhijat Joshi who also co-wrote Lage Raho Munnabahi, 3 idiots and Mission Kashmir with Chopra.
The cast of Broken Horses features Vincent D’Onofrio (THE JUDGE, FULL METAL JACKET), Anton Yelchin (LIKE CRAZY, STAR TREK), Chris Marquette (ALPHA DOG, THE GIRL NEXT DOOR) and Maria Valverde (EXODUS). Also, the technical crew of the film includes the Director of Photography Tom Stern (HUNGER GAMES, THE CHANGELING), Production Designer Toby Corbett (BAD LIEUTENANT) and Composer John Debney (IRON MAN 2). The film is being distributed and marketed by Fox Studios in India.
