Remember the time Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ended? Like me, I am sure many sighed in relief when Baa was finally shown resting in peace (or was she?) and the eight year-long run finally ended. It was like the end of an era on television! Honestly, I didn’t expect any other show to have the audacity to put us through the melodrama again. But hell no, I was SO wrong.
Believe me when I say I breathe TV, I do! But here are 5 shows that even I can’t tolerate anymore.
Balika Vadhu
While I sincerely appreciated the show when it began (great storyline, powerful performances and a breath of fresh air after all the Tulsis and Komolikas), it’s getting really tough for me to tolerate the Anandi-Shiv- Jagiya-Ganga story anymore. The show should have gracefully ended after some years of the protagonists growing up. But even after running for 6 years, 1800 episodes and three Gangas later, it refuses to come to an end.
Uttaran
I had given up on this one long ago, but the protagonist Mithi reaching across border to Pakistan, was really the last straw. Oh, did I tell you that Tina Dutta, who plays Mithi in the show, also played the role of Ichcha in the beginning, who by the way is Mithi’s mother? Uhhh… confused? Exactly my sentiments about the channel still airing it!
Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai
‘What should we cook for dinner today? What clothes are you wearing to that cousin’s wedding?’ are some of the very important questions that this show answers. Yeh Rishta started as a love saga of a married couple brought together by their parents and destiny, of course! Trials and tribulations of an arranged marriage seemed bearable for some time but definitely not after six years! I mean c’mon! Even a real marriage doesn’t last that long nowadays. Can someone tell them already ki yeh rishta aakhir kya kehtala hai?
Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma
A satirical take on the day-to-day problems people face, Tarak Mehta ka Oolta Chashma has given us some memorable characters like Jetha bhai, Daya ben and all the other residents of the Gokuldham society. But please Mr. Mehta, nothing through your oolta chashma is funny anymore. Yes! Not even ‘Hey Ma! Mataji!’ End it already, maybe?
Saath Nibhana Saathiya
It’s just beyond me how this show is still on air. Each and every character of this show is so annoying. Good riddance for Rucha Hasabnis and Gia Manek (Rashi and the first Gopi), who probably thought it’s better to do nothing than to be a part of this show.
Pavitra Rishta deserves a special mention on this list considering it recently ended after successfully running for five years. Had I been writing this article just about a month ago, it would have been on the top of the list of the shows that need to end. But thankfully for us, Ekta Kapoor realized that the show has lived its life (and a lot more than it was supposed to, if I may add!) and got it off air in October this year.
