Two distinct films will be fighting it out at the box office this weekend – Ungli and Zid. While the former is a Karan Johar production, the latter has Anubhav Sinha‘s name attached to it.
With Emraan Hashmi in the lead along with Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut and Randeep Hooda, Ungli has some notable names attached to it, which makes it a star studded affair indeed. However, the film – with a social message to it – has been delayed for more than a year now. Moreover, the promotion too is just about decent while the songs haven’t quite hit the roof. All of this means that it will have to rely mainly on word of mouth to see some footfalls coming its way. The man at the helm of affairs is Rensil D’Silva, who has to his credit a well-made Kurbaan. That gives one hope of a quality product in the offering.
Zid is a bold musical thriller and the promos have pretty much established what it is about. The film has been projected to be the kind that would shock the audience with its content. It is a kind of film that can fetch audience at single screens, especially in B and C centers, due to its bold content. Meanwhile, the songs have been popular, and that goes in its favor. The film features primarily newcomers, though, which means it would again all boil down to reviews and word of mouth.
There is third film releasing in the form of Zed Plus. However, with minimal visibility, unexciting cast and average promo, it hardly stands a chance at the box office.
All in all, in a week that is pretty much open for two films belonging to altogether different genres, the stage is set for Ungli and Zid to emerge winners if the content of both films is really powerful. With no competition from the earlier weeks, it couldn’t have been a better release scenario for the two films.
