Veena Malik has managed to be in the headlines some way or the other since the time she set foot in India with her stint on Bigg Boss. However, the latest reason she has grabbed the headlines will truly shock you.
The owner of Pakistan’s biggest media group, Geo TV, along with Veena and her husband Asad Bashir Khan, have been sentenced to 26 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan for allegedly airing a blasphemous programme on Geo TV. What was it, you ask? A programme that played a religious song while staging a mock wedding between Bashir and Malik.
Judge Shahbaz Khan sentenced both Malik and Bashir along with TV host Shaista Wahidi for 26 years each. The anti-terrorism court also imposed a 1.3 million Pakistani rupees fine on the convicts, and has ordered that their properties be sold off in case of failure to pay up.An official has been quoted as saying:
The judge said in his judgment that all four accused committed profanity. The court in its 40-page verdict also asked the police to arrest the convicts.
The host and the channel have both released official apologies but apparently that isn’t going to satisfy the extremists in the country. Meanwhile, all the accused are not in the country currently -and they do have the option to appeal to the regional high court in Gilgit-Baltistan.
