It is one thing to be seen in a couple of back-to-back realistic yet breezy affairs. On the other hand, being a part of a quintessential Bollywood set up is an altogether different ballgame. This young actress, who made heads turn with her very first film and a series of advertisements, learned the masala way in her third Hindi film.
We are talking about Yami Gautam. Soon after making waves with Vicky Donor (and being seen in Total Siyappa), she found out when it comes to a Prabhudheva flick (Action Jackson), it’s a completely different world from the one she had been previously exposed to.
“Well, Prabhudheva is a perfectionist and if he is not happy with certain things, then you have to get going all over again. Of course, most of the directors want it that way but Prabhudheva specifically demands it from you,” reveals Yaami, who can already be seen grooving to fun songs with Ajay Devgn, after her much realistic stints with Ayushmann Khurranna and Ali Zafar.
She says, “I remember how there were a couple of scenes in the film, which required a bit of high emotional drama. We did them as required but then suddenly, he felt after the shoot, that we could do better. Later, Ajay and I shot a few chunks again. I have seen Prabhudheva go all the way for the betterment of the film.”
Though everyone’s thinking that she is overwhelmed with her new avatar as a quintessential Bollywood leading lady, Yami shrugs it away.
“You know, for people it may be a major upswing as they have seen me in a particular mode in my earlier movies. However, I, as an actor have been aiming to be versatile in films. I don’t think I can be labeled in any particular avatar,” she protests.
She goes on, “I will give you an example. My first role as Ashima (Vicky Donor) was huge for me even though I didn’t know then whether the character would be a hit or not. Still, the role was challenging for a newcomer to take up and I did that. Now Action Jackson is being touted to be this big film and I have taken that as an opportunity which has come my way. Tomorrow, there may be another surprise.”
Well, we can only wait for that surprise!
