A fortnight ago, half a dozen films came together on a single Friday. Now, the story is being repeated this week with five films vying for attention. Unlike the earlier releases, though, where just a couple of them seemed interesting, the story is better (and hence more complicated too) this week – four of the films are at least somewhat exciting. These are Tamanchey, Spark, Ekkees Topon Ki Salaami and Jigariyaa.
All these four films are mid-budget affairs and belong to diverse genres. Tamanchey is being projected as a fun romantic-action-musical entertainer and rides on the power of some popular music, courtesy Pyaar Mein Dil Pe turning out to be a chartbuster all over again. The promo has been well cut, too, while the overall marketing and promotion has been adequate. The casting (Nikhil Dwivedi, Richa Chadha) seems apt for the genre and if the content is up to the mark, this one has the potential to do well till Happy New Year arrives.
Ekkees Topon Ki Salaami is a drama-comedy and features Anupam Kher and Divyendu Sharma (Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Chashme Baddoor) who are known for their comic timing. Though the film isn’t an out and out comedy, its promo promises some good moments indeed. Ditto for Spark, which is catering to an out and out mass gentry and hence would predominantly find a single screen release. The film marks the arrival of Khatron Ki Khiladi Rajniesh Duggall in an action avatar after a few back-to-back horror/supernatural affairs.
Jigariyaa is in the Tanu Weds Manu and Issaq space, and though the former was a hit and the latter a major flop, one can’t dismiss the look and the theme that this all-newcomer film carries. It also boasts of some good music which surprisingly hasn’t been promoted much. Though it appears to be a decent affair, the lack of visibility may hinder its theatrical run.
As for the fifth release of the week, absolutely nothing is known about Dhund Lenge Manzil Hum, and there are no expectations either from whatever little publicity material that has been unveiled so far.
