Sayesha must be thanking her stars. She is the first girl in over 20 years who has been given a break as a leading lady by Ajay Devgn. For an actor who has only occasionally worked with relative newcomers (Sonakshi Sinha has been an exception, and that too after making her debut with Salman Khan in Dabangg), it is after ages that he has roped in someone altogether fresh and that too for a film he is directing. The movie in question is Shivaay and the girl is Sayesha, daughter of actress Shaheen (from the 90s) and grand-niece of Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar.
The last time a new girl had featured in an Ajay Devgn starrer it was way back in 1993. She was – hold your breath – Tisca Chopra, who was then known as Priya Arora. The film was called Platform.
Ever since then Ajay has mainly worked with established actresses. While Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon and Manisha Koirala were his favorites in the 90s, he has worked with Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Kajol and Kangna Ranaut post year 2000.
Oh yes, he did have newbie heroines like Tamannaah Bhatia (Himmatwala) and Kajal Agarwal (Singham) starting their career opposite him but then that was mainly for Bollywood as they have already been established down South for long. On the other hand, though Neha Dhupia made her Hindi film debut with him in Qayamat, it was mainly for an extended guest appearance.
Meanwhile Manasvi Mamgai, who too is starting her Bollywood sojourn in Ajay’s Action Jackson, is one of the three heroines in the film with Sonakshi Sinha leading the show and Yami Gautam adding on to the fun.
However, for Sayesha it is a proud moment indeed as she is getting a proper leading lady launch by Ajay in Shivaay, which is produced by Ajay Devgn Films and Eros International.
For someone who is ever-so-selective when it comes to the heroines in his films, we believe there must be something about Sayesha to find his nod of approval. Well, the film is quite a while away, what with its release planned for January 2016. Till then, let is wait to see more of her even as Sayesha continues to bask in the glory of this special feat indeed!
