Singham Returns has more or less ended its run at the 140 crore mark and with that, it has not just turned out to be the highest grosser ever for Ajay Devgn but also the tenth highest earning film in the history of Bollywood. While this is a glorious feat indeed, Ajay is now looking forward to the release of his next, Action Jackson, which has none other than Prabhudheva at the helm of affairs.
With the kind of superb run that the actor as well as the director are enjoying, especially after Singham Returns and R… Rajkumar respectively, Action Jackson – which is an Eros and Gordhan Tanwani production – has turned out to be a super-hot property in trade, what with bets being placed on the kind of business it would manage to garner on its solo release arrival on 5th December.
“Well yes, I won’t deny that now I am thinking of stakes involved. As I have maintained though, it is always better to see people have high expectations from you. It tells you that are doing something right,” says Ajay.
He is indeed doing a lot right, what with at least one major hit every year since the beginning of his career with Phool Aur Kaante (1991). With 23 years of working experience behind him, Ajay has been consistency personified. While he has been delivering 100 crore successes at regular intervals (he has five to his credit, and is next only to Salman Khan who has seven), the fact remains that the younger lot is catching up too, what with the likes of Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra delivering 100 crore successes as well.
Since Ajay had once famously stated that kids of today have to do something really good to find a major box office standing, considering the fact that experienced actors like him have been around for 20-25 years, what does he feel about the current trend?
“I do maintain that unko time toh lagega. Yes, they are very good, but then we have reached the interiors, which makes a huge difference to the ultimate count of people who watch your films. These kids are yet to penetrate such territories and the very process takes 5-6 years. Having said that, these young ones are proving to be quite a crowd puller at many centers and it is wonderful to see a whole new generation arrive,” says Ajay before signing off.
