When it’s a Ranbir Kapoor film, you can be sure it’s going to stay in the news; and with a prolific filmmaker like Anurag Kashyap, one can’t help but raise their expectations!
The film, Bombay Velvet, has been shot in the neighbouring country of Sri Lanka. To make sure that they did not lose touch with the reality of the screen, the makers of the movie took a novel route of finding the right cast, which is why, they have cast a lot of locals in the film. They went to great lengths to find the perfect cast by advertising the requirements in various newspapers. This wasn’t all. Since the film is set in Bombay of the 60s, the makers contacted consulates of India, Russia, USA and UK to get as many Indians and foreign characters to do justice to the cosmopolitan city. They even contacted local pubs and clubs about their requirements; and also had an extensive on-ground exercise. Looks like they really wanted to get this right!
Anurag Kashyap with his penchant for doing something hatke, has cast director Karan Johar in a negative role in the film. Anushka Sharma, who plays Ranbir’s love interest, has been in the news for her costumes! Going by the effort put in, the movie co-produced by Fox Star Studio and Phantom Films sure holds a lot of promise. But will the film deliver the iron-fisted punch hidden in velvet gloves when it hits theatres on November 28, 2014? That only time can tell!
