Actor Amit Sadh recently flew to the US to spend some quality time with his friends and family. It’s almost tradition to carry gifts from India for your family when you visit them abroad and Amit did just the same, but little did he know that he’d be detained at the airport for six long hours!
Sadh’s friend from the US had requested him to get a kirpan, which is the holy knife that is carried by the Sikh community. Amit bought it from the Golden Temple in Amritsar and packed it in his bags but was stopped by security officials at the airport upon reaching. They took him aside and asked him to wait. Sadh complied thinking it was a round of routine questioning but the officials took out the kirpan and refused to return it.
It took Sadh an interrogation of six hours to convince them that the knife held religious value and it was something that Sikhs carry. It’s weird that he was stopped, given so many Sikhs fly in and out the States almost everyday but the officials apparently were confused because Sadh wasn’t wearing a turban! After a lot of arguing and persuasion from his side, the actor was finally let off with the kirpan. He must have been so relieved to have finally won the battle with the airport authority!
This isn’t the first time our B-Town celebs have been stopped at the airport. Who can forget that infamous case of Shah Rukh Khan being detained at the airport! So much so, King Khan jokingly says that whenever he starts to feel arrogant, he makes a trip to the US! Got to love this man’s sense of humour! We’re hoping Sadh too took this with a pinch of salt!
