Splitsvilla 7 is on the tube right now. And no, we cannot question its existence because it is us, the audience, who has given the once-upon-a-time music channel enough successful seasons for it to launch its seventh installment!
So yes, we are aware of how sexist the show is; each episode starts with a voiceover stating that the villa has ‘bees ladkiyan’ with ‘saat rajkumar’! We also know that the dirty politics gets nauseating more often than not. However, strictly tongue-in-cheek, here are 7 reasons why Splitsvilla is actually one of the most epic shows ever.
1. RIP English
It is no secret that to be a contestant of the show, knowing English is clearly not a criteria. If only the contestants realised that they can’t speak the Queen’s language as well as they think they did, the world would be a better place. However, all the RIP English moments make for a great laugh!
2. Job Description: No Skill Required
Seemingly the only skill you require for the show is “should not be too unfortunate looking.” This gives the ‘youth’ of the nation, the apparent target group of the show, enough satisfaction in knowing that if this bunch of unskilled people can earn a living, the future isn’t too dull for them either.
3. Fashionista Gallore
Unflattering lipsticks, hair that puts a monkey to shame, last season shoes, dresses that are one size too tight, shirts that are one size too big, fake eyelashes… it is all there! The show manages to provide enough examples of what not to wear in each season. It’s a service, really.
4. Here Today, Gone Tomorrow!
Except for a handful of ‘Splitsvillans’, you never have to see them again! Since they lack skills, very few of them bag a television or film project post the show. So it is very easy to treat your relationship with these people like that summer romance that taught you that you have it so much better than them.
5. Love Is In The Air
Okay, in all seriousness, some of the love stories out of Splitsvilla, however cheesy and sometimes even fake, bring a smile to your face. And it’s nice to know that even if (when) all else fails, they will still have someone like them with them.
6. Sunny Leone
Sunny is hosting this season of Splitsvilla and we have to say she does a bloody good job at it. She complements Nikhil Chinnappa well and holds her own. She is reason enough to watch the show!
7. Entertainment! Entertainment! Entertainment!
With all the quirky people performing their uniquely innovative tasks and other elements that go into making Splitsvilla, the show makes for some kickass entertainment; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
