Hey Ladies! This one’s for you. Makeup is meant to make you feel better about yourself by enhancing your natural beauty, making you look like an improved version of yourself, not worse. Could you just be making any of these mistakes? Take a look for yourself and fix them!
1. Over-plucking your eyebrows
Eyebrows can single handedly define one’s face and make you stand out. Over-plucking and over-shaping them can age you. If your brows are too thin and are over shaped, they can look theatrical and a little dramatic!
Here’s a quick fix: You could fill in the over-plucked patches with some dark brown/black eye shadow (use a colour closest to the colour of your brows). It will give you good shape without it looking too harsh on the face. Also, let your eyebrows grow if you’ve plucked too much, so in a couple of week’s time, you can visit your professional at the salon and they can shape it naturally.
2. Too much eye liner on the lower lid
Eyeliner is a great makeup tool if used correctly. It really helps bring out the eyes but if you put too much of it on the lower lash line, chances are it’s going to draw down your eye without actually opening it up, making it look droopy and making you look older instantly!
Quick fix – you can use an eye shadow and an angled eye shadow brush, so it will have a softer look. You could also work on lining just your water line.
3. Overdoing the lip liner
A lip liner is another one of those beauty products that can add to your looks if you know how to use it correctly. But unfortunately, a lot of people don’t and end up having really harsh edges on their lips, making it look like their lips were drawn on. So, keep it natural. Don’t go overboard and make sure you lip liner matches your lipstick. We’re not in the 90s and we definitely don’t want those two toned lips!
Quick fix – The trick is to use a nude lip pencil. That way it looks like it’s your natural lip outline instead of it being two different colours.
4. Caked-on foundation and powder
Caked-on foundation and powder – Who doesn’t crave that youthful, dewy look? If this is something you want to achieve, try not to pile on your foundation because when your skin looks dry and matte, it makes you look older than you are.
Quick fix – So, the one thing you can do is when you put on that foundation, make it really sheer. Only put it on the four points on your face – forehead, cheeks, nose and your chin. If you have a blemish, put concealer only on that spot instead of slapping it all over your face. If you do wear powder foundation, apply a small amount of moisturizer before hand and definitely do use a primer because it’ll help conceal those fine lines, which will prevent the powder from falling in between them.
5. Using the wrong shades
The colors that you wear on your face could actually age you. If you step out wearing glittery blue or purple, it could look like you’ve gone back to the 80s. Subtle shimmer can look absolutely gorgeous on all skin tones as long as you don’t go overboard with the glitter. Stick to shades of taupe and brown during the day for a natural look.
Quick fix – A more natural approach to makeup can help you look a lot more youthful.
