Yes, it’s happening – a Hindi version of the widely popular The Fault in Our Stars is now in the works! The English film is based on a novel of the same name by John Green, and has done extremely well at the box office. Now, reports doing the rounds suggest that Karan Johar has decided to remake the film in Hindi, and it looks like Alia Bhatt has been finalised as the female lead for this project!
There’s no male lead confirmed as of yet, and apparently Dharma is still undecided about who will direct the film. Trade magazine Super Cinema reported that Karan is unsure about whether he wants to direct the film himself or not. If he decides not to, he is likely to give the project to 2 States director, Abhishek Varman.
As someone who’s read the book – multiple times – and really liked the movie as well, I actually think Alia is the best choice in Bollywood today to play Hazel. She has big boots to fill since Shailene Woodley was fantastic in the original, but if anyone can pull of Hazel’s strength and vulnerability, it would be Alia. Now we just have to wait and see who they rope in for Augustus – I wonder if they’ll go with one of the other students, Varun Dhawan or Sidharth Malhotra.
It’ll be interesting to see how a Hindi version of TFiOS shapes up; I’m just worried it’ll be a) over-dramatised (because, let’s be real, the original is already quite emotional), and/or b) watered down with random songs thrown in. But either way, this should be a huge project, and we can’t wait to hear how things shape up!
The real question is, though… do you think “Okay?” will become “Theek hai?”
