If you ever want to see how our Mumbaikars take to dancing, you have to either take part in, or attend, Shiamak Davar’s Summer Funk show! With the glitz and glamour of an awardx ceremony, this show makes regular people feel like stars! Don’t forget the likes of Shahid Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput and Varun Dhawan among many others started their journey towards stardom from this very stage!
So here are 7 things that we loved about Shiamak’s Summer Funk 2014.
1. Yeh Fugly Fugly Kya Hai?!
The cast of the upcoming film Fugly stopped by to witness the show (Vijender Singh, Mohit Marwah, Kiara Advani and Arfi Lamba). The theme of the show was Rise of the Champions and Vijender Singh was a perfect fit!
Kiara Advani who was a student at Shiamak’s dance school felt completely at home and taught the audience the ‘spider step’. The audience joined them on stage and everyone did what they know how to do best – DANCE! The excited and energetic cast urged the audience to go and watch their film. “It’s a great platform for these upcoming actors to talk about cinema. Though theatre comes first for me, Bollywood and Cinema are equally important. Whether seasoned actors or budding talent, they need to talk about their films and the importance of entertainment.” said Shiamak.
2. Selfie Fever
Shiamak jumped onto the Selfie Bandwagon as he posed with a packed audience as his backdrop! This was no regular selfie and it has nearly two thousand parents and family members in it! How cool is that?
3. Victory on Wheels!
This was one performance that had not only me, but everyone in the audience in tears. Students on wheelchairs, physically challenged and the lesser privileged came together in what was one of the most beautifully choreographed pieces I have scene. Kudos to Shiamak and his team for making everyone dance without discrimination. It received a much deserved standing ovation!
4. Stars in the making?
We caught Parizaad Zorabian, Sunita Rao and Shilpa Shirodkar in the audience cheering on their kids! With the number of stars that Shiamak has made, is this the beginning of the next generation of the Bollywood brigade?
5. An International twist to Chaar Bottle Vodka!
An international performer Che Pritchard showed off his cool moves and surprised the audiences as he danced and hummed to Chaar Bottle Vodka. Though not a personal favorite, because of the performance the song got the song stuck in my head for the rest of the night!
6. Sneak Peak into Selcouth
MissMalini loved this show when she saw it last year! The cast of Fugly and the rest of the audience got a sneak peak into the performance as his dance company and One Year Graduation students danced – Shiamak Style – to Turning Tables!
7. From toddlers to Grannies!
From four year olds dancing to Grease to senior citizens shaking it to Baby Doll, this stage had performers of all ages, shapes, sizes enjoying themselves on stage! This one day of non-stop dancing convinced us about Shiamak’s motto of ‘Have Feet. Will Dance’!
