Spring cleaning time? It’s a great idea to get rid of your old clothes and unwanted items, to create space. But you may be getting rid of some stuff, that may have the potential to turn you into a fashionista! Here are 8 things that you shouldn’t throw out of your wardrobe!
1. Knits
Got a favourite sweater or soft knit-wear? Preserve them! Age looks great on knits, especially if you like the old-school worn-out look. Just like ripped denim, worn out sweaters have that cool edge to them if styled brilliantly. Cobain & grunge fans, are you listening?
2. Old denims
Again, a no-brainer! Old denims always look great, they just need a nip-tuck, occasionally. But, you’re gonna get more outta them by ripping them and playing with ’embellishments’ like studs and safety pins. And if you go too far, shred them and patch them on an old shirt. That’s a cool-look too!
3. Vintage frames
Got a pair of old frames? Rusted frames? Worn out frames? Quickly get them polished or treated and fit in some dark glasses and rock them. Vintage glasses are cool and feel cooler when you have brought them to life, yourself. Where to look, grandpa’s closet will be a great place to start!
4. Old junk JEWELRY, coins, keys & watch-dails
Apart from your mum’s and grand-mum’s old jewelry, do not throw away anything that may give you a chance to create some cool jewelry. Old coins, old watch-dials and keys make great pendants or brackets. Besides, old watches are always a ‘no’ to throw away. Fix them and wear them!
5. Mom’s old throwaways
Mama’s and grandma’s old trunks are a treasure chest of goodies! All you need is a hawk’s eye and a moment, to sweep in and grab ’em! A little altering here and you have a Mad Men chic look.
6. Brother’s old shirts
While Kangana Ranaut‘s look above, involves a high-end luxury brand, you can fashion it for less. Steal your brother’s, boyfriend’s or husband’s shirts to fit them to your body-size. You can now get that cool androgynous preppy look.
7. Old bits and bobs
Anything from old coins to little carved latches can be used to make a cool pin. All you need is that interesting looking piece, a safety pin and some super, super glue.
8. Old Sarees
Ever stared at an old family picture thinking, “That print on grandma’s saree is so pretty!” Well, ask mom or find it yourself. Old sarees make great fabric options for a cute blouse, skirt or trousers. And that’s not it. If you spot a cute print, you can turn them into a trendy scarf or a printed belt. Tear ’em further into a ribbon to use them as quirky shoe laces!
