MissMalini’s Looks For Google+ Hangouts At Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort Decoded!

We had an extremely packed schedule at Lakme Fashion Week, summer/resort 2014. With runway collections being showcased at two show areas and hosting Google+ Hangouts, MissMalini had the days mapped out for her! My job was to add in the fun dress-up element for the week and here are the details on how I framed each look!

Look 1

In polka dotted Guess dress with Manish Malhotra

What: Summer Retro Look

How: The dress is from Guess and I liked its polka dotted print on the sexy off shoulder 60’s body-con silhouette. It had that pretty summer loving look. MissMalini wore this look for her Hangout with Manish Malhotra before the opening show.

Look 2

MissMalini with Grazia’s Ekta Rajani

What: Flowy Glam

How: The dress is by Bebe and I tried to have a little fun with it. To play along the metallic gold halter brace, I had Malini wear her gold ear cuff with little dangling gold leaves. The overall look was kept simple as the green colour and the flowing silhouette of the dress was a strong enough statement.

Look 3

MissMalini in Nishka Lulla with Narendra Kumar

What: Resort Chic But Not Too Serious

How: MissMalini and I loved the sail print when we first saw it at Nishkha Lulla’s summer preview. So for day one, a cute resort look in a crop top and a full length skirt seemed like a good idea. Plus the look was kept comfortably relaxed in a pair of ballet flats and styled with a pretty ‘love’ and ‘faith’ neck piece by Smashh Salon.

Look 4

MissMalini in Payal Singhal and with Payal Singal

What: Desi girl with a Moroccan twist

How: Designer Payal Singhal has a good hold on culture. In this look, the crop top had almost-sheer panels that dropped from the sides and the pajama trousers had a Moroccan themed print. Keeping the panel and the loose pajama silhouette in mind, I worked in a long vintage-like neck chain. This could be a great look, when you have to find a middle ground between tradition and pop culture!

Look 5

MissMalini and Sita Wadhwani in Gaurav Gupta

What: Jolt of Colour

How: Well, to bring in the summer resort feel, a jolt of colour is always welcome. This Gaurav Gupta dress that MissMalini wore to his Space Odyssey themed show, had a strong punch of orange! To match its pleated structuring at the neckline and the tribal elements in the show, we use these Aztec earrings by Vero Moda and a pair of rose nude pumps by Heel & Buckle.

Look 6

MissMalini in Aartivijay Gupta with Neeta Lulla

What: The Print Clash!

How: Prints are always a summer favourite. So a double take on prints is always a fun direction to play in. I teamed this Aartivijay Gupta musical print top with a knee length tank dress that had a similar print to create a top-over-pencil skirt look. To avoid going overboard, I kept the shoes muted with grey pumps by H&M and some silver chain links and bangles.

Look 7

MissMalini with Nupur Kanoi in a look by Nupur Kanoi

What: Military Chic

How: Fighting sleep and covering the most talked about designer at LFW, was quite the task. So I though I’d work in a military-chic angle to one of the looks for the week. In the image, MissMalini is dressed in Nupur Kanoi. The look consists of a loose, off-shouldered tunic in an olive green tone with gold studs, worn over a snug long sleeveless dress. To match the strong vibe of the look, the ‘Love & Faith neck-piece’ by Smashh Salon, the studded bracelet off a street shop in Bandra and the leather boots by M&S worked perfectly.

So those were the 7 looks MissMalini wore at Lakme Fashion Week summer/resort 2014. And you can create your own version of them with a personalized twist on accessories and make-up! As for us, the creative hands at the Lakme Absolute Salon worked in a hair and make-up look to go with every outfit! So out of these looks, which one would you say is your favourite?
