Imtiaz Ali has gone on record to tell Team MissMalini that now was the time for Highway to be made, but as you know, the story has been with him for a good 15 years – much before the release of his first film, Socha Na Tha in 2005. So while Alia and Randeep are the two stars of the film now, when Imtiaz tried to make this film several years ago, he obviously had another lead cast in mind. Can you guess who he had approached for the film? The answer may surprise you!
His choice of actors were Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. However, Sunny had told Imtiaz that he should first go ahead and make a film with his cousin brother, Abhay Deol, which was Socha Na Tha. Apparently, Sunny paaji told Imtiaz that he would work with him if Socha Na Tha ended up faring well. Unfortunately, while SNT was applauded by the critics, it didn’t do too well at the box office. So Highway never got made at that point and Sunny never worked with Imtiaz!
Could you imagine what Highway would have looked like if it were made a decade or so ago, and with Sunny and PZ as the lead pair? Wow!
