Shah Rukh Khan lah! The actor performed to a roaring crowd in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
Thousands of Malaysians braved the city traffic conditions to see the one person who made Bollywood famous in this country. Having said that, Shah Rukh is the only Indian movie star who has been given a civilian honour in Malaysia; he is known as Datuk Shah Rukh Khan.
Here are the 5 top things that got Malaysians roaring at King Khan’s Temptation Reloaded:
1) The art is more important that the artist
Shah Rukh danced despite his leg and shoulder injury – The King was in pain due to the injuries he sustained during the shoot of Happy New Year. He was even in crutches when he arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport of Friday. But he powered through, because as he tweeted – “Malaysia. Temptations on!!! Little nervous to do rehearsals & dancing. But the art is more important that the artist.” That’s the King Khan spirit!
2) Shah Rukh’s spontaneity with the lucky fans
Two lucky fans and one couple was called up to the stage, and the rest was history. The girls were love struck and the boys were awestruck. Shah Rukh’s wit had the crowd in splits. The segment was undoubtedly the evening’s best and proved yet again that Shah Rukh’s presence in itself is larger than life.
3) Attendance of the Malaysian Royal Family
Shah Rukh is so admired in Malaysia that even the Royal family of the Pahang state in Malaysia was amongst the audience. Malaysia’s former prime minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed and his wife were also present. They, of course, had to come, since SRK always refers to Dr. Mahathir as one of his closest friends in Malaysia. Many stalwart Malaysian artists were also present to be mesmerised by the Bollywood stars.
4) The girls (how can we forget them?)
Madhuri Dixit and Rani Mukerji looked as stunning as ever dancing to their popular numbers. Together with Shah Rukh, the awesome threesome had the crowd cheering and screaming at the top of their voices. Rani’s presence here also killed the rumours that she was supposed to be married on Valentine’s Day to Aditya Chopra… unless she took the next flight out after the wedding to dance and cheer Malaysians. I don’t think so!
5) Arijit Singh’s Live Band performance
It was Arijit’s first visit to Malaysia. The crowd, however, did not have any problems humming to Tum Hi Ho. The live band was amazing and was a total treat to the audience. Sound quality – first class. Music – world class!
Malaysians left the stadium wanting more of SRK. It was a beautiful evening which brought us all to the land of dreams and love. On the flipside, I do feel that the energy could have been improved if the stage set-up was more interactive with the audience.
Side note: I work for the official airlines of the concert, Malaysia Airlines, and got my chance to interview SRK the moment he arrived in Kuala Lumpur. It was my first ever interview and I was so thrilled that it was with the King of Romance on Valentine’s Day. Have a look:
