Hey ladies! Johnny Depp is apparently getting an award for having made particularly artistic collaborations with hair and make-up specialists. Don’t worry, this does not mean he wears make-up on a daily basis and looks like a ghost without it (as is common among actresses). The award is being given to him as an honour for having used the skills of make-up artists more than any other celebrity has used off late in movies.
The award is of Distinguished Artisan Award bestowed by Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild. We are no strangers to the characters Depp has portrayed in the past and how he has almost loyally stuck to a partial bit of greasepaint. From Edward Scissorhands’ gothic pallor to Jack Sparrow’s guyliner- friendly swashbuckling, his rose-tinted Mad Hatter to his dazzle painted Tonto.
Depp will be receiving the award from Joe Harlow, who is an Oscar winning make-up artist and has worked with him in the past in movies like “The Lone Ranger”, “The Pirates of the Caribbean” and his forthcoming flick, “Transcendence”.
Susan Cabral-Elbert, the guild president was quoted in an interview stating, “Make-up and hair artisans agree that Johnny Depp is a wonderful selection to receive our first Distinguished Artisan Award.” She added, “He, probably more than any other actor working today, uses the skills of our members to delineate his characters. Depp has constantly been an outstanding supporter of our crafts, ultimately respectful and appreciative of our members’ abilities and generous with his creative collaboration. A great artist himself, he allows others to shine.”
The award show will be held on February 15th. The other nominees of the awards include “One Chance”, a biopic of Paul Potts in the category of Best Contemporary Hair Styling and Best Contemporary Make-Up; “American Hustle” (recognized for its wig work) and Steve Jobs biopic “Jobs” in the category of Best Period and/or Character hair Styling.
