In 2012, it was announced that Bollywood director/producer, Karan Johar had snapped up the Hindi rights to Amish Tripathi‘s much celebrated and critically acclaimed Shiva trilogy of books.
Now, it has been disclosed that even the Hollywood rights for an adaptation in English, have been bought by an (as yet) unnamed producer.
In a statement to the Press Trust of India, Amish said, “I have signed the deal with a US producer for the first book with an option for the subsequent books. Unfortunately, I can’t disclose the name as of now but it will be announced shortly.”
The series of three books –The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras – have sold over five hundred million copies in a span of three years. The first book was released in 2010 while the last was released in 2013.
