From calling herself Mona Lizza in her debut film, Kajraare (2010) to relaunching herself as Sara Loren in Murder 3 (2013), this young Indo-Pakistani actress is excited about her next film Barkhaa, in which she plays the lead role.
Playing her love interest is the hunky Taaha Shah who made his Bollywood debut in Yash Raj Films’ Luv Ka The End. While that didn’t fare too well at the box office, he made his presence felt in Gippi where he played a high school boy who was the object of affection for a younger school girl.
The duo now com together to heat up the silver screen in a love story which promises to be different.
Watch our exclusive interview with them here:
Team MissMalini: Tell us about Barkhaa.
Sara Loren: Barkhaa is a very interesting and beautiful love story. When I read the script, I realized that it weaves between the past and future and the way one’s life changes over time when you fall in love with someone and when they fall in love with you too. In this time, you tend to forget a lot of things from your past because you’re so consumed with your present love.
Barkhaa is about a very strong relationship in which the female protagonist also has no clue about where it will end up. It’s the story about a girl who experiences these changes through love and if love is to be given a name, it would be Barkhaa.
Team MissMalini: So what makes this love story stand apart from the rest?
Taaha Shah: There’s a very strong social message attached to this film, which unfortunately, for obvious reasons, I cannot reveal at this moment. But when you watch the film, you’ll understand that there’s no age to love. You can fall in love with someone older to you or you can fall in love with someone younger to you and there is nothing wrong with that.
The thing about this film, like every love story, is that it’s very emotional. So yes, there will be the clichéd emotions. But besides that, there will be an understanding of just being a human being and of how every person should be given the opportunity to survive in this world and not be divided and classed into different categories. They should always get a chance. There’s always even a second chance for everybody to re-live and make something out of themselves. So this is what the story is about.
Team MissMalini: Sara, why did you take a break from Bollywood after Murder 3?
SL: I was just looking around for the right script after Murder 3, which was a huge loss for me. So after that, I wanted to play a role by which I could relate to the public, like this Mumbai-centric role, where I play a simple, Mumbai girl.
Hence, because I wanted to connect with my audience, I took my time waiting around for the right script to come my way. When Barkhaa was offered to me, I found it to be a simple film with a beautiful script and that’s why I took it up.
Team MissMalini: Tell us about your roles in the film.
TS: Barkhaa….Sara IS Barkhaa…She is the one and only Barkhaa.
SL: Taaha is a guy who falls in love with me….
TS: She can’t reveal much right now but that’s the catch of the film. She is playing a very strong character. Her role is such that it will definitely create a lot of questions in the minds of the audience.
Sara’s role is that of a level-headed girl who has been through life and a lot of experiences and through a lot of ups and downs. I think that’s what her character is all about – someone who faces it all and someone who finally comes out on top of it all.
As for my role, I play someone who is trying to understand her and trying to bring her closer to me.
Team MM: Do you have any message for our readers?
TS: To all our fans and audience, I would like to ask you to come (watch the film), fall in love and learn that there are things bigger than love. It’s when you fall in love and actually decide to give it a chance that you need to exceed it. And by exceeding your love, you will get to understand the one you are in love with.
Love is very superficial. You have to go deeper.
